Wine & bike tour in Umbria
Small medieval towns and wine routes in Italy’s green heart Umbria on a bike
Discover Umbria, situated between Rome and Florence, on a nice slow wine and bike tour. Umbria is a neighbour of Tuscany and offers the same beautiful scenery, interesting small towns and excellent wines. In Umbria, you can still meet the “real” Italy, with its relaxing pace of life, authentic culinary traditions and friendly people. As in many of the other Italian wine producing regions the wine producers in Umbria has created a network called “strade del vino” or
“wine routes”.
We cycle on minor roads, where they exist on bike paths, to hear the sounds of the nature and enjoy all the Umbrian scents!
Biking to Assisi, Spello, Bevagna, Montefalco, Spoleto..
The bike tour starts in Assisi where St. Francis was born. The town is an important place for the spiritual Italy but also for its art, history and medieval atmosphere. The first night we stay in Assisi and from there we cycle through the olive groves to Spello, an ancient Roman colony where you can can see the remains of the Roman Empire and with a myriad of picturesque narrow streets and alleys.
Along a flat road we proceed to Bevagna, another small treasure chest that has remainings of a Roman amphitheater, Roman mosaics, medieval stalls with typical local crafts and nice small restaurants. A visit here is a must!
We stay overnight in Bevagna and do a guided tour of the medieval stalls before we start todays cycling on the gentle hills with their vineyards that lead us to Montefalco, the homeland of the red wine Sagrantino and other noble wines. Stop for lunch and wine tasting at a winery!
Last bike day we enjoy the beautiful landscape along the bike path that leads to Spoleto where there is much to discover. The last night we stay in a nice hotel in Spoleto.
During the bike tours we will visit a number of nice wineries for wine tasting!
